After a 26-14 road win over Cincinnati to move to 10-1, BYU remained at 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday. BYU is one of four Big 12 teams ranked along with Texas Tech (5), Utah
(13), and Arizona (25). Arizona’s ranking is notable since that gives BYU another ranked win.
BYU would be the first team out of the playoff if the season were to end the today. The easiest way for BYU to make the playoff is to get the automatic berth by winning the Big 12 Championship, most likely against Texas Tech. Outside of that, BYU will need to beat UCF, hope at least one or teams right above them lose this weekend, and then be competitive in the Big 12 title game. Last year SMU lost to Clemson in the ACC title game, but stayed put in the CFP rankings and made the playoff as an at-large team. BYU will be rooting for Alabama, Oklahoma, and Oregon to lose this weekend.
According to FanDuel odds, BYU has +210 odds to make the CFP and -265 odds to miss it, meaning oddsmakers have BYU more likely to miss the playoff.
