I had a feeling how this would turn out when I posted it.
However, when there’s online grumbling about something sports related, a quick poll is the best way to figure out if it’s just a grumpy few doing all the posting. And, to be fair, the grumbling about the ladies losing a few single matches in games didn’t have people up in arms or anything.
It was just…a smaller level of worry.
So it just had me a little
curious how much actual worry there was and how many folks maybe found it concerning.
The results? Most people are fine. As DBK said – as long as we’re winning matches and improving, she could care less if the Huskers sweep. And let me be honest – if we’re sweeping the likes of Texas and Penn State, I’ll happily drop a set to Florida Gulf Coast every single time.
Here’s the poll results from our Corn Nation crowd, as well as a couple others from around the country.
- 86% of Husker fans aren’t worried – that will come as the NCAA Tourney progresses with big pressure on this group to take it all.
- 14% see a reason for concern, but, like I said, there doesn’t seem to be anyone really freaking out. Just…concern
- My personal thought, and I doubt I’m alone in this, is I’d like to see a group this talented show a flaw or two and peak at season’s end rather than try to chase perfection for 3+ months.
- And 72% just watched the Squawks get thumped by a playoff team.
- Their remaining schedule isn’t brutal, but their style of play is often ineffective against playoff-caliber teams. Playing not to turn it over and punting while waiting for the opponent to make a mistake coupled with hoping for a big play or return works against young Nebraska teams.
- The Georgias, Ohio States and Miamis of the world? Not so much.
- Most are convinced he will be going at some point, but the competitive early showing against Nebraska should keep the wolves at bay for now.
- 34% think no matter what, it won’t happen until the end of the season if it does.
- And any who think it’s happening mid-season are probably loopy. A native of the area, he attended high school and college in DC and Maryland. He has coached 22 of his 34 years there and took the Maryland job when his stock was high at Alabama. If the decision is made, they won’t embarrass him.
- The 10% may be onto something – he may have a longer rope to make it back to bowl eligibility again.
- 40% picked Florida, eh? Well, they did certainly surprise everyone by getting shallacked by Mizzou a week after blasting Ole Miss.
