Don’t worry, the Transfer Tracker is coming. But with the Transfer Portal opening tonight at midnight, I figured a little time to set the table would be helpful.
Missouri Basketball entered the offseason on March 20th, with a round of 64 loss to Miami in the NCAA Tournament. Shortly after I posted a Roster Math post, so you can see where things stood on March 26th. Since then things have been quiet, but there has been news.
We know, at least, that Anthony Robinson II and Sebastian Mack are going into
the Transfer Portal.
In social media posts, both Trent Pierce and Trent Burns announced they would be returning to the Tigers next year. So to update where things stand with eligibility:
Who’s Out of Eligibility
- Jacob Crews, Senior: 0 years left
- Mark Mitchell, Senior: 0 years left
- Jayden Stone, Senior: 0 years left
- Shawn Philips, Senior: 0 years left
- Jevon Porter, Senior: 0 years left
Who’s Still got Eligibility
- Trent Pierce, Junior: 1 year left
- Luke Northweather, R-Junior: 1 year left
- T.O. Barrett, Sophomore: 2 years left
- Annor Boateng, Sophomore: 2 years left
- Trent Burns, R-Freshman: 3 years left
- Nicholas Randall, Freshman: 3 years left
- Aaron Rowe, Redshirt: 4 years left
Who’s coming in new?
- Jason Crowe, Jr. – 5-star combo guard
- Toni Bryant – 5-star combo forward
- Aidan Chronister – 4-star wing
Who’s Leaving
- Anthony Robinson II, Junior: 1 year left
- Sebastian Mack, Junior, 1 year left
Missouri pursued, but didn’t land, Principia 4-star CG Quentin Coleman, after the top 40 prospect was released from his NLI from Wake Forest. Coleman chose Illlinois, but his timing was good because with the portal not opened yet, it allowed Mizzou to take what they were prepared to invest in Coleman, and sink it into positions of need in the portal.
There are 10 players currently slated to be on the roster next season. Of those 10, only two really started any games of significance this past season with Pierce and Barrett being in the starting lineup for the bulk of SEC play. Though, I would note that Barrett has not announced he’s coming back. Which likely means he and the staff are still not aligned on a deal.
10 players on the roster means there are 5 available spots to fill. Depending on availability and money, I don’t know that all 5 spots will get filled. The Tigers ran with 14 spots this past season, and that was with one de-facto redshirt on Aaron Rowe.
From the looks of the roster, the Tigers will be in search of a complimentary scoring guard to pair with Jason Crowe, Jr. Preferrably one who can make a high percentage of threes. Then a versatile wing/combo forward who can project into the Boss spot occupied by Mark Mitchell the last few years. Then they’ll likely be on the hunt for some size, although I don’t think we’re going to see any monumental additions as the early market for bigs is crazy expensive (reports are that someone like Somto Cyril is seeking upwards of $5 million — which is estimated to be about half what Missouri might be planning for the entire roster next season).
There have been a host of notable names of players who are planning on entering the transfer portal when it opens tonight, here are a few we’re planning on keep an eye on:
- Kory Mincy, CG, George Mason
- Jaden Schutt, Wing, Virginia Tech
- Corey Hadnot, CG, Purdue-Fort Wayne
- Jelani Hamilton, CG, Georgia State
- Jalen Haralson, CF, Notre Dame
- Allen Graves, CF, Santa Clara
- Desean Goode, CF, Robert Morris
- Jamarion Davis-Fleming, Post, Mississippi State
- Connor Turnbull, Post, Evansville
These are just a few of the many players we think Missouri will be attached to at some point. Once the tracker goes live we’ll have way more names. But just to give a rough idea of what we think the Tigers might be looking at.
I hope to post the Tracker tonight, and I will not further update this post. This is just to set the table for things to come. News is ever changing when it comes to the portal so check back, bookmark, and let’s ride the news wave together! Just as an example North Carolina hired Michael Malone while I was finishing this post up. And Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell (a former Mizzou recruit) is entering the portal.
