CRYSTAL PALACE VS. LIVERPOOL
| Sunday, November 8th |
Premier League | Selhurst Park
2:00PM BST/8:00AM EST
Last week, Liverpool were on the upswing, having won their previous four games. Here we are a mere seven days later, and the tides have changed. Not horribly, of course, but two consecutive losses against Arsenal and Fenerbahce have made it feel like the Reds are chasing again.
On Sunday the team travel to Selhurst Park to try to get some of their mojo back against struggling Crystal Palace. The Eagles are struggling so hard,
they’re below Manchester United. Pierre Sage may be on his way out if his team suffers another loss.
Liverpool lost 2-1 on their last trip to Selhurst Park, which marked the beginning of their epic autumn crash out last season. They will be looking for a bit of redemption and positivity going into the international break. Palace, meanwhile, have only won one home again in the league this season, a 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest last month.
Predicted Liverpool Lineup (4-2-3-1)
Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Gakpo, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak
Ryan Gravenberch is a doubt with a heel problem, while Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni are unavailable. Gravenberch was benched on Wednesday, and Iraola will likely rightfully do the same on Sunday to give him some extra time to get match fit.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is suspended following his red card against Tottenham, while Ismaila Sarr remains sidelined with a groin injury. Considering that Palace have been scoreless in their last three league games, losing those two up front is potentially a big blow for them.
The Managers Have Their Say
Andoni Iraola: “I think that is the challenge, especially in a club like Liverpool. One week ago in this news conference [the talk was] we were on a run, everything was in a good place and we were in a better mood. Now, after two defeats it changes and it has to be like this in clubs like ours.”
Pierre Sage: “I’m not in a good position to comment. I have to be respectful with this club. They lost against Arsenal and Fenerbahce. Every game is different and we have to create a good condition from the beginning.”
