According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Denver Broncos star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is “trending in the right direction” to play in today’s game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. Waddle is listed as questionable for today’s game, but it appears the Broncos will have their explosive star wide receiver for today’s key divisional matchup.
As we
know, Waddle reaggravated a chest injury late in the victory over the Arizona Cardinals. He took an end around, bobbled and fumbled the ball, but was able to get back on it. However, he landed hard on his shoulder/chest and was removed from the game. Waddle did practice on a limited basis twice this week, which is a good sign, and he has already played through this injury, so hopefully it is not something that hampers him too much during today’s game.
This seemed like the likely outcome after the Broncos did not elevate a wide receiver from the practice squad on Saturday. Instead, they elevated reserve running back Cody Schrader, who will serve as the Broncos RB3 today with RJ Harvey and Tyler Badie on the short-term IR, along with undrafted rookie offensive lineman Gavin Ortega. If the team felt Waddle would not have played, we likely would have seen a wide receiver elevated so all signs point to Waddle being good to go.
This is big news for the Broncos because the Chiefs will be without rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane and veteran starter L’Jarius Sneed. Delane was downgraded to OUT on Saturday, while Sneed was placed on the injured reserve. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix and the Broncos pass catchers will need to take advantage of a weakened Chiefs secondary and have some explosive plays down the field today. Time for Jaylen Waddle to step up and Marvin Mims Jr. to make some money for himself with a big showing today.
Trade rumors are swirling: Jonah Coleman is starting, Waddle is active, Mims is expected to see a larger role, and Bo Nix is looking to continue the momentum he built last week vs. the Cardinals. It should be a fascinating game for the Broncos offense and hopefully one that is full of big plays and an eventual Denver Broncos victory.
