UFC bantamweight Raoni Barcelos was discharged from the hospital Tuesday night, three days after a scary incident in his UFC Vegas 121 main event bout with Raul Rosas Jr. at the Meta APEX.
Barcelos posted a picture on social media at around 9 p.m. local time, standing in front of the hospital alongside his wife and son.
“Discharged and with my family,” Barcelos wrote in Portuguese. “I want to thank everyone for the love, prayers and positive vibrations. God is our victory.”
The 39-year-old fighter and
the UFC have yet to confirm what led to him going unconscious in the fifth round of the fight. Earlier this week, Barcelos’ head coach Davi Ramos revealed “he did not have a stroke, it wasn’t a heart attack, nothing like that, but we still don’t have an explanation for what happened.”
Before being discharged from the hospital, Barcelos posted a video from hospital bed to assure fans he was “doing well” despite the terrifying situation.
“I’m doing really well and undergoing all the exams here at the hospital,” Barcelos said Monday. “This is just the hospital’s protocol, so I have to go through all of them. That’s it, guys. I want to thank everyone for all the prayers and all the kind messages. Please keep sending that positive energy.”
“We move forward, on to the next one,” he continued. “I gave everything I had inside that cage. Like I said before, I was only leaving that cage if I was carried out, and that’s exactly how it happened. It wasn’t the way I wanted it to be. I wanted to become champion and leave with the victory, but God knows everything. So we move on to the next one.
“I’m here, doing well. I’ll be back, and I’ll come back stronger. And I want to send all of you a kiss and a big hug. Thank you so much for everything. Thank you, and let’s keep moving forward!”
