In news that may serve as little surprise to tuned-in fans of the Buffalo Bills, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is “expected to be signed to the Bills’ 53-man roster, NOT the practice squad, later this week,” per reporter Ryan Talbot and other tuned-in sources. If true, that could mean another defensive tackle’s roster spot is hanging in the balance.
Phillips, now 32, is a known commodity at defensive tackle, and he’s always played his best football as a member of the Bills. Should Phillips sign,
it would be his fourth return to the team — and was the only move he had eyes for all along, saying it was Buffalo or retirement in 2025.
ESPN Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg shared a post showing what appears to be Phillips’ intended locker space, and a new number (52) for “Big Phil.”
Phillips is Bills Mafia’s ultimate hype man, a role that’s endeared him to the fan base since his arrival after a forgettable start with the Miami Dolphins. The question now is just how much Phillips has left in the tank and who, if anyone, is at risk of losing their spot on the 53-man roster. The list of defensive tackles on the team’s current roster includes Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, DeWayne Carter, T.J. Sanders (rookie), Deone Walker (rookie), Larry Ogunjobi (suspended first six games), Zion Logue, Marcus Harris, and Casey Rogers.
Stay tuned to Buffalo Rumblings for all the latest on this and more involving the Bills’ initial final roster decisions due at 4 p.m. EDT on August 26.
