There are several up-and-coming fighters featured throughout the card this weekend (see them here), but let’s give you one to really keep your eyes on.
Without further ado …

Following a dominant run in the Professional Fighters League (PFL), where she went undefeated in all of her bouts, Michelle Montague will make her UFC debut this weekend, dropping down from Featherweight to Bantamweight. In a division that has been struggling for depth, “The Wild One” could make an immediate impact.
Montague’s standout attribute is her elite grappling and finishing ability. The New Zealand-born fighter has submitted all six of her professional opponents, three of them in the first round. If Montague can take her opponent to the ground, it’s a strong bet that she’ll find a submission.
She has relocated to Florida to train full-time at American Top Team, sharing the gym with current champion Kayla Harrison and a host of top female fighters.
The biggest concern for Montague is her limited standup game and overall inexperience at the UFC level. She hasn’t faced top-tier competition yet, but as a specialist with size and elite grappling, she may already have what it takes to make waves — just ask Harrison.
Montague faces Luana Carolina on the Prelims. While the fight isn’t on the main card, Carolina presents a solid test. She isn’t a top contender but carries a respectable 6-3 UFC record, making her a tricky first challenge for the rookie, and there is an argument that this is one of the fights with the most stakes, given there is a ranking on the line.
Will Montague emerge as a future contender? It’s hard to say given her rawness and age (32), but UFC Perth will provide plenty of answers.
