When we read through this article about Danny Hurley’s UConn program, it took a minute to realize what seemed off. Can you spot it?
Go ahead and look. We’ll be here when you’re done.
Okay, you saw it too,
right? This line? “For us, the Texas game is a huge game. That game on Friday is — and this group deserves just the best home crowd we’ve had in a while for that game because this team has really, really worked for its fan base.”
Maybe it’s us. Maybe it’s that Cameron is just such a special environment that we don’t think about stuff like this often.
However.
Hurley has built a brilliant program in Storrs. No one would dispute that he’s become one of the best coaches in the game and is running one of the most formidable programs in college basketball.
So why does this guy have to beg for a good home crowd? Are the fans at UConn that unaware of what the Huskies have accomplished, or that they continue to be highly elite?
This team is a legitimate threat to win its third national title in four years. It’s amazing that Hurley has to court fans.
