Big stars are coming to CMLL in the month of October.
First up is Bandido versus Hechicero in a rematch for the ROH World Championship on October 3. Bandido defeated Hechicero to retain the title at Death
Before Dishonor in August. They will run it back in Arena Mexico.
Next is the return of Tessa Blanchard to CMLL. It has been nearly one year since Blanchard last competed for the lucha libre promotion. Tessa was one-half of the reigning women’s tag team champions when she decided to sign with TNA. The titles were vacated, and life moved on.
Blanchard returns to Arena Mexico for a match on October 10. No opponent has been named yet.
The more interesting angle is crossing battle lines in the ‘war’ between WWE and AEW. WWE has a close relationship with TNA, and WWE purchased AAA. AEW’s allies include CMLL and NJPW. In that context, it is unusual to see a wrestler mingle with the competitor like this. Julio César Rivera explained on Informa that Blanchard’s TNA contract allows her this freedom.
Mercedes Moné is the current CMLL women’s world champion. She’ll be put to the test to defend the title against Persephone on October 17 in Arena Mexico. Mercedes and Persephone have a little bit of history in the ring. The luchadora challenged the CEO in a four-way for the TBS Championship at AEW Forbidden Door. Persephone is confident that the result will be different this time as she takes the CMLL title back where it belongs.
