The Athletics and Cardinals have split the first two games of the series. That sets up the tie breaker this evening as the clubs wrap up their midweek series in St. Louis.
For the Green & Gold, they’ll have left-hander Jeffrey Springs going for them in the finale. Springs will bring a decent 4.17 ERA into tonight’s start, his 26th of the season (plus two bulk appearances).
The starting lineup tonight shakes out like this:
Looks like Nick Kurtz is fully
healthy as he’ll drop down to the #3 spot in the lineup. We welcome back Shea Langeliers after he sat out the past couple days. He’ll only DH tonight but he will lead things off for the A’s in this one. The top half is what you’d expect with Jacob Wilson and Brent Rooker joining Kurtz and Langeliers in the heart of the order.
Elsewhere in the order we got rookie Colby Thomas manning left field and hitting fifth behind Rooker. Second baseman Zack Gelof rises up the batting order after a couple solid games. Darell Hernaiz is at third base tonight, and he’ll be followed by Lawrence Butler and Willie MacIver.
For the Cards, they’ll have their own lefty going for them tonight with Matthew Liberatore getting the call to wrap up the series for St. Louis. Finally in his first full season as a starting pitcher for the big league squad, Liberatore has held his own with a respectable 4.32 ERA across 25 starts. He’s coming off a few short outings where he couldn’t even finish five innings so the squad would like to keep that going and get into the St. Louis ‘pen sooner than later.
How the St. Louis Cardinals’ lineup will look tonight:
Let’s go A’s! Time to win a series!
