The Buffalo Bills have a new type at the cornerback spot. The team landed a height/weight/speed athlete in outside cornerback Davison Igbinosun out of Ohio State.
It was a bit of a shock to see the Bills going with an outside-only cornerback after 2025 investment in Maxwell Hairston in the first round and a long-term extension for cornerstone piece Christian Benford. But let’s talk about what Igbinosun brings that made the Bills feel it necessary to trade up for him in 2026.
Igbinosun is a press-man
cornerback who has elite size and athleticism combination. He brings a lot of nasty to the position and he’s never afraid to put his hands on opposing wideouts. There’s no doubt he has the plus size and will use every bit of it to help him win whether that be stacking up receivers or knocking them off the spot. Igbinosun is also an aggressive run defender which matches how he plays in coverage.
The concern for Igbinosun is how handsy he is. He racked up a lot of penalties in his career and needs to learn when to take his hands off and trust what he is as a 4.45 athlete with excellent length to affect a play without needing to grab quite as much. The key component that will help him is getting his head turned around in coverage — an aspect that will help keep his hands clean and allow the penalties to shrink. There’s potential here especially since press-man corners with his ability don’t grow on trees.
Another layer to the pick is… what’s the deal with the cornerback room? That will be a question now and moving forward that many Bills fans should be asking. Igbinosun is an outside only cornerback and has no slot versatility. Igbinosun is talented, but there are more questions than answers.
