Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis is on life support right now after a lawsuit was filed against Davis accusing him of some pretty horrendous physical violence against women. Now we’re learning that Paul may
go back to the MMA well to try and replace his opponent.
Paul vs. Davis was always an odd duck of a fight — Jake Paul weighed in at 227 pounds against Mike Tyson last year, while Gervonta Davis competes around 135 pounds. No one asked for this fight, and there’s some speculation that weak interest is as much a factor in the decision to potentially scrap this fight as these latest “Tank” accusations are.
The current options, according to sources, include moving Paul to a Friday December 12th or 19th date. Most Valuable Promotions have sent out feelers to numerous possible opponents, including two that may interest mixed martial arts fans: Francis Ngannou and Nate Diaz.
Diaz already fought Paul in a 2023 boxing match that saw the unfocused Stockton son lose a unanimous decision to “The Problem Child.” He followed that up with a majority decision win over Jorge Masvidal in July 2024 and hasn’t competed since.
Nate recently commented on the Jake Paul fight, suggesting he was (finally) interested in running things back.
“I was injured in this fight,” he said above a clip of his fight with Paul. “But they trippin, I still won this fight.”
“Its all good tho, most people don’t know s—t about boxing,” he added. “Ill get it back on the both the Paul sisters see u f—kers soon.”
Ngannou hasn’t fought since an October 2024 win in the PFL over Renan Ferreira, his first MMA fight since leaving the UFC in 2022 to go 0-2 in boxing against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. There’s been a whole lot of talk about “The Predator” potentially facing Deontay Wilder, but not much movement since boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh started working with noted Ngannou-hater Dana White.
With Paul desperate to salvage a big end-of-year fight, a potential payday for Diaz or Ngannou could sit somewhere in the eight figure range. With that much money in play, anything is possible. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
