After a decorated 18-year career, former Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook announced his retirement from the NBA on Wednesday.

Westbrook, 37, spent one season in Washington after the team acquired him in a December 2020 trade that sent John Wall and picks to the Houston Rockets.

The standout guard averaged a triple-double — 22.2 points, 11.7 assists and 11.5

rebounds per game — during his lone season with the Wizards. Washington made the playoff as the No. 8 seed before losing in five games to the Philadelphia 76ers.
