Ishé Samuels-Smith had joined BlueCo sister club RC Strasbourg earlier this summer in a £6.5m transfer, but with Ben Chilwell following him on Deadline Day, the young defender was sent on loan to Swansea City.
As it turns out, prior to that loan, the transfer itself was reversed as well. So the 19-year-old is back officially on Chelsea’s books, but also still out on loan for the season at Swansea City. Not confusing at all!
It’s not often that transfers get cancelled or reversed, though we might remember
something quite similar happening with Tyler Dibling a couple years ago. Dibling, just 16 at the time, failed to settle at Cobham and he was able to return to Southampton after just a couple months. Samuels-Smith was at Strasbourg was less time and made no senior appearances, though obviously the BlueCo connection will make it look a bit more shady than it otherwise would be. I’d guess that we ran the numbers and needed to make sure RCSA’s books were balanced as well.
Either way, ISS is back and hopefully set for a successful season with the Swans!
“Ishé will provide valuable cover in a position where we have been short of options. He is a hungry young player who is excited to make the most of this opportunity. He joins us with considerable pedigree at academy and youth international level, and we are pleased to have him with us.”

Good luck!
