Arjen Robben 2.0?
Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise is on a tear. An unbelievable 46 goal contributions in just 42 games this season. For context, Leroy Sané had 116 goal contributions across 5 seasons for Bayern. Olise is on pace to obliterate 50 goal contributions in a SINGLE SEASON.
It makes sense that Bayern’s most successful season statistically (thus far) has coincided with the emergence of two world-class wingers occupying the LW and RW. Is Olicho the next Robbery? Bayern legend Arjen Robben believes
there are similarities between him and Olise.
Interviewed by Bayern Munich (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Robben was full of praise for Olise after his sensational first-leg performance against Real Madrid in the UCL quarterfinals. “I thought he was very good. That’s obviously my position too. He was excellent. He played with energy and creativity and showed some great skill on the ball.” High praise from one of the best to ever do it.
He then admitted that “There are certainly some parallels.” He sees it too!
This was immediately followed with a word of caution —”But you always have to be careful with comparisons. I don’t really like them, because every player has his own playing style. Of course, there are certain things about us that are similar. But ultimately, he’s a different player to me.”
Finally, the icing on the cake — “He just does his thing brilliantly. I’m really pleased about that and I can enjoy it too.” It is amazing to see a footballing legend (and one of the best RWs of all time) enjoy the game of Olise. Bayern fans get the privilege of enjoying his flair, finesse, quality, and control week in, week out.
The new king of the RW is here.
