LSU basketball has received a major boost ahead of the 2026-27 season, as a Louisiana judge has granted RJ Luis an injunction, paving the way for the former St. John’s standout to play for the Tigers this season.
The ruling is particularly significant given Luis’ path since leaving college.
Luis went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft before signing a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics, officially beginning his professional basketball career. Now, despite having entered the NBA system, Luis is set to return to college basketball and will suit up for LSU this season.
The injunction provides Luis with a chance to rewrite his story, giving the Tigers the opportunity to add a player with both significant college experience and professional experience to their roster under Will Wade.
Luis originally made his name at St. John’s, where he emerged as one of the Big East’s top players before pursuing his NBA opportunity. His decision to return to the college game gives LSU a potentially valuable addition as the program enters this new era.
