AEW Dynamite airs tonight (Feb. 4) with a live show from Pearl Theater at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the sixth episode of Dynamite during the 11 week build to Revolution, which takes place on March 15.
MJF doesn’t agree with Tony Khan’s bad booking in AEW
The sharks are circling AEW World Champion
MJF as the promotion gets ready for its next two major events, Grand Slam Australia and Revolution. The biggest immediate threat to his title reign is Brody King, who wants a title match on Feb. 14 in Australia. MJF argued that Brody doesn’t deserve
a shot at the Triple B because he’s only beaten jobbers and tomato cans like Jon Cruz in recent weeks.
King confronted Max on last week’s Dynamite and actually agreed with him about that point. That’s why Brody sat down with AEW President Tony Khan to think of someone he can fight that proves he is world champion material. Khan agreed to cut out all the middle men and just book King vs. MJF in a title eliminator match on Dynamite. If King beats the world champ in this non-title match tonight in Vegas, then he gets the title shot he’s been seeking in Australia. Needless to say, MJF doesn’t agree with Khan’s bullshit booking logic.
To his credit, MJF now sounds a lot more confident about his chances of beating the big man after a few days have gone by. In fact, the AEW world champ claims he only needs two minutes to beat Brody King tonight.
It looks to me like MJF pretty much has to lose tonight’s title eliminator match against King, but I suppose stranger things have happened before in AEW. Will King actually be the one who beats MJF in under two minutes?
Tune into Dynamite to see if MJF stumbles for the first time as world champ and gets himself booked in a title match he wants no part of in Australia.
The rest of the card
Grand Slam Australia will also feature a number one contender’s match to determine who challenges for the world title next month at Revolution. AEW’s newest main eventer is Andrade El Idoolo, and he battles Kenny Omega in a singles match tonight. The winner advances to the number one contender match at Grand Slam Australia. This one is personal for Kenny, who wants revenge after Andrade attacked him in October when he originally returned to AEW and joined the Don Callis Family, before disappearing for months.
Hangman Page will almost certainly be in that number one contender match at Grand Slam Australia, but first he has to get through a match tonight against Mark Davis without getting injured or taking pictures with Marty Scurll. I don’t think anybody new joined the Don Callis Family in the last 10 minutes, so Hangman only has to worry about 174 possible guys interfering in this one. Hopefully the rest of Hangman’s Horse Cock JetSet Rodeo teammates will be on standby just in case they need to help fight off Don’s family.
AEW National Champion Ricochet puts his gold on the line tonight against “Jungle” Jack Perry. Ricochet already retained the belt against Perry in a match back in December. Has Perry made any adjustments to ensure there will be a different outcome tonight, or is this the end of the road for his championship chase? Does Perry have any friends who can stop GOA from giving Ricochet an unfair numbers game advantage?
Finally, the babyface Young Bucks are in action tonight. They put the entire AEW tag team division on notice last week, and tonight will presumably be their first step towards eventually earning a world tag team title match at Revolution. Do AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR and Stokely have anything insulting to say about the Bucks’ return to their roots with tassels and Superkick Parties? Will The Butcher and The Blade return to AEW tonight as surprise opponents and squash the Bucks right out of the gate?
Other stuff to keep an eye on
– “Timeless” Toni Storm and Orange Cassidy will team up in a Hair vs. Hair match at Grand Slam Australia against Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta of the Death Riders. Will Shafir and Yuta practice their hair-cutting skills on some hapless babyface jabroni tonight?
– Tommaso Ciampa made his surprising AEW debut last week, and he’s already the new TNT champion. The Psycho Killer cut a babyface promo afterwards and celebrated with his family. Meanwhile, Kyle Fletcher already made it clear that he wants the next shot at TNT gold. Will he confront Ciampa tonight and get a date booked for their title match? How about Grand Slam Australia, which happens to be in Kyle’s home country?
– Konosuke Takeshita wants a shot at AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, and Mox wants his win back after The Alpha beat him during the Continental Classic tournament. Will they come to blows tonight as part of the gang warfare between the Death Riders and the Don Callis Family?
– What is Swerve Strickland’s reaction after being eliminated from AEW world title contention last week? Does AEW’s most dangerous wrestler need to embrace a turn to the dark side to eventually win back the top prize in the company?
– The Babes of Wrath retained the AEW women’s world tag team championship against Sisters of Sin over the weekend on Collision. However, the broadcast ended with Megan Bayne, Penelope Ford, and Triangle of Madness standing tall over Babes of Wrath and AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander. Is the Megasus coming after Statlaner’s world title next after Thekla couldn’t get the job done last week?
– Gabe Kidd is back in AEW and it sounds like he plans to end Darby Allin’s existence in this world. What kind of gimmick match is on the way for these two stars to settle their issues once and for all?
– AEW International Champion Kazuchika Okada reportedly lost the bag that contained his gear and the belt over the weekend, which is why he never showed the actual belt when he retained it against Adam Priest on Collision. Will anybody in AEW poke fun at Okada’s mishap tonight and incur the wrath of his middle finger?
– This Saturday’s episode of Collision is also being taped tonight, after Dynamite goes off the air. The main attraction is an 8-Man Parking Lot Brawl featuring Eddie Kingston, The Razcals, and Ortiz vs. Big Bill, Grizzled Young Veterans, and Bryan Keith. It looks to me like the heels don’t stand a chance in this one.
– Where the f*** are Chris Jericho, Britt Baker, Keith Lee, Hikaru Shida, Danhausen, Nyla Rose, and Private Party?
What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
