The Las Vegas Raiders were late to pick their head coach, which left them at a disadvantage when it comes to picking coordinators. Klint Kubiak decided to take a chance on young defensive line coach Rob Leonard, who doesn’t have much coordinator experience.
Leonard is hoping to make his mark on the league and build a defense that has been missing from the Raiders for a while. While the results so far during the preseason haven’t led to much excitement, we haven’t seen too much of what Leonard plans
to execute on defense.
Leonard’s leash could be short if he doesn’t perform. Joe Woods is on the coaching staff as well, with plenty of experience as a defensive coordinator. If Leonard doesn’t have a great season calling the defense, he could be replaced easily by Woods.
In this week’s SB Nation Reacts, we ask: Will Rob Leonard get fired after the season? Raider Nation has confidence in Leonard, with only 27% of fans thinking it’s a possibility.
Leonard doesn’t have that many expectations in the media but does from the fans. Hopefully he can put together a defensive scheme that catches teams off-guard and finds ways to create turnovers and pressure on the quarterback.
