Michael Malone’s first roster as the new North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball head coach is close to done. Not every UNC scholarship is now accounted for, but most of the pieces are now in place.
In this day and age of college basketball, a lot of teams experience turnover from season to season. That’s even more the case for the Tar Heels who have a new coach. At time of writing, there are already eight new players on Carolina’s roster, with the probability that there will be more too.
Having
not seen any of them on a court together, it’s a little bit difficult to get an exact read on how the remade 2026-27 roster will look on the court. We can only look at the video and scouting reports of the particular players to see how they play, but what the total combination is remains to be seen.
However, that doesn’t mean we can’t have our early opinions on who UNC has picked up. That’s why our question of the day for today is simply this: Which new roster addition are you most excited about so far?
Personally, my own answer is Neoklis Avdalas. At 6-9 while listed as a guard, Avdalas brings a unique skill set to the table. We have seen him play in the ACC before, as he’s transferring in from Virginia Tech. Admittedly, he didn’t quite light the conference on fire, but he had his moments over the course of the season. That being said, he went to the Hokies with a decent amount on fan fare, and that didn’t come from nowhere. My and the team’s hope is probably that he can develop even more, and play under a coach he’s used to having unique players, with Malone famously coaching Nikola Jokić with the Denver Nuggets. That’s not to say that Avdalas will have the same type as impact as the multi-time NBA MVP, but I’m very interested to watch him develop.
Besides him, I’m also looking forward to Terrence Brown. He was a bucket getter at Utah in one of the best conferences in the sport last season in the Big 12. If he can carry that over to UNC that could help take next year’s Tar Heels a good long way.
That’s my opinions, but we want to hear from you too. What incoming Tar Heels are you most excited to watch in the 2026-27 season?
