Saturday, January 3rd
DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Most Valuable Promotions. From San Juan, Puerto Rico. Main event features Amanda Serrano defending her unified WBO and WBA featherweight titles against Reina Tellez, in what MVP are promoting
as 10 scheduled three-minute rounds. HOWEVER, the last time Serrano was scheduled to headline an MVP show in Puerto Rico, she got some sort of hair product in her eye and couldn’t clear the medical exam, a decision that wasn’t announced until right before she was supposed to enter the ring. Will Serrano make it to the ring this time, and potentially pick up her first win since July 2024? Or, will a lather-rinse-repeat failure knock her out yet again? Very promising support fight here, with Yankiel Rivera taking on Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez, plus Holly Holm vs Stephanie Han. Also: Ebanie Bridges and Henry Lebron! BLH will have live updates
Sunday, January 4th
YouTube(?), 8:00 am ET, Shohjahon Ergashev vs Gupreet Singh. From Samarand, Uzbekistan. No official word on streaming, but two previous shows this year from Shohjahon Ergashev Promotions streamed on the Shohjahon Ergashev Promotions YouTube channel. There are 14 support fights listed on BoxRec, none of them longer than six rounds, none of the fighters with more than two pro fights on their record.
…and a post-script:
If you’re a regular reader of this feature, you’ve probably also dipped a toe in the comments. That’s where our own BoxingJim shares his own weekly digest of faded or rebuilding stars, hangers-on, struggling journeymen, and zany names from the previous week in boxing. It’s a great bit, one that even I can enjoy despite my perpetual resentment over not having thought of doing it first.
Well, keep a positive thought for BoxingJim as we enter 2026, as he’s dealing with some health issues:
Fingers crossed for a quick recovery, and hopefully Jim will be back at it soon, outshining me in the peanut gallery of my own weekly story.
