Gameweek 6 of the 2026/27 Premier League season was a wild, record-setting affair packed with dramatic red cards, stunning scorelines, and tactical shifts.
With a season-high 36 goals scored across ten matches and three sending-offs disrupting major clashes, the weekend completely altered early-season expectations.
In this Premier League Gameweek 6 Review, we dissect the biggest talking points and takeaways from GW6 as the top-flight standings continue to take shape.
Manchester City Demolishes Liverpool to Stay Perfect
Manchester City looks like a well-oiled
machine at the top of the table. Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their flawless record, making it six wins out of six matches to secure maximum points at the Premier League summit.
Traveling to Anfield, City capitalized on Ryan Gravenberch’s sending-off following two quick yellow cards, unleashing a ruthless attack to put three past Liverpool in a 3-0 statement victory.
Newly Promoted Teams Make Massive Waves
All three newly promoted sides delivered remarkable performances this weekend. Ipswich Town earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fulham, leaving the Cottagers rooted to 20th position.
Hull City showed resilience to grab a 2-2 draw away at Everton. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s Coventry City recorded the margin of victory in this EPL Gameweek 6 Review, tearing apart Newcastle United in a 4-1 thrashing to secure their second win of the campaign and climb to 14th place.
Manchester United Stumbles Against Ten-Man Spurs
For the second time this season, Manchester United failed to defeat an opponent playing with ten men.
After Rodrigo Bentancur received a red card in the 78th minute, United surrendered their lead in the 92nd minute to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
Key playmaker Bruno Fernandes recorded his fifth blank in six matches, leaving United lingering in 13th place as pressure mounts on their attacking setup.
Ten-Man Brighton Holds Firm Against Sunderland
Brighton & Hove Albion continues to be one of the surprise packages of the season. Despite seeing a player sent off in the 57th minute against Sunderland, Fabian Hürzeler’s side dug in to claim a disciplined 2-0 victory while keeping their clean sheet intact.
Brighton’s tactical adaptability under pressure remains one of the most compelling storylines in our Premier League GW 6 Review.
Red Cards, Unbeaten Streaks, and Goal Milestones
Gameweek 6 delivered a season-high total of three red cards awarded to players from Brighton, Spurs, and Liverpool. It was also the highest-scoring matchweek of the campaign so far with 36 goals across the board.
As the dust settles, Brentford, Everton, and Manchester City remain the only three clubs yet to taste defeat, while Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bournemouth remain winless after six rounds of action.
With the early-season patterns beginning to harden, the margin for error at both ends of the table is shrinking rapidly.
