Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NCAA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Nebraska fans and fans across the country.
In last weeks CN Reacts Poll, we asked you what was most concerning about the Huskers’ play after the opening game. The results of that poll were posted on Sunday after Game #2, and many of the choices had already been improved upon in between the first two contests – even the penalties – arguably.
So this week’s question is this – with
what phase of the game are you happiest?
(And, yes, I fully understand it’s early, but these things have a way of raising red flags immediately. Remember Brendan Sorsby scrambles? A long TD run by a Houston Christian running back?)
Here are this week’s options. And do you feel it’s something I didn’t mention here? No problem – tell me what is in the in comments and why – I’ll make mention of it when the poll results are published!
- 1) The Offensive Line – they are opening big holes so far as well as keeping Anthony Colandrea clean. The one big sack for -18? Well Dana Holgorsen placed that on his shoulders saying Anthony basically sacked himself.
- 2) Anthony Colandrea himself – he has surprised fans with his arm strength and accuracy. He scrambles well, and he doesn’t wait 5 or 6 seconds to do it. In addition, and not to pick on anyone, he can find the seams upfield quickly for positive yardage
- 3) Yeah, I’ve been calling them the Three-Backs. Some want Jamal Rule getting all the carries, but, folks, we have Rule, Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee all averaging over 6 yards per carry. They’re bursting through those holes and gaining yards after contact as well as being fully involved in the passing game. In Kirby Smart’s years at Georgia, he has almost always relied on 2-3 running backs who then find themselves on NFL rosters. Come the 4th quarter, fresh weapons look much faster.
- 4) The defensive line looks solid so far – yes, the real test is in Big 10 play, but last season they were springing leaks in the first three games. Hey, I know it was Bowling Green, but 32 carries for 85 yards is at least taking care of business.
- 5) Almost no timeouts because of confusion getting plays in – I’ll write a little more about this in a day or two, but this season the Huskers find themselves with an upperclassman-heavy roster for the first time in Rhule’s tenure. I said in the 2025-26 Review Preview seriesthat this may be Nebraska’s secret weapon this season. The last three years? A pretty steady diet of timeouts as confusion reigned between plays, especially on offense. That has been noticeably absent thus far.
