The Big Ten had two games on Wednesday night. Indiana and Rutgers eventually found their way to convincing victories.
Let’s take a look at what happened.
Game of the Night:
–Indiana Hoosiers 98, Alabama A&M Bulldogs 51
New head coach Darian DeVries got off to a positive
start on Wednesday night, as Indiana opened up its season against Alabama A&M at home. The game was never all that competitive, with the Hoosiers outscoring the Bulldogs 29-9 in the opening 10 minutes of action. Lamar Wilkerson led the way for Indiana with 19 points. Tucker DeVries also had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in a great all-around game.
Indiana improved to 1-0 with the win and nearly broke 100, as the team finished with a blistering 1.4 points per possession. The Hoosiers will now prepare for a marquee game over the weekend against Marquette in Chicago on Sunday. KenPom favors Indiana, but it’s only mildly, so expect a tight one. That game could end up setting the tone for the Hoosiers for the first portion of the season.
The Rest:
-Rutgers Scarlet Knights 81, Rider Broncs 53
A “new look” Rutgers team got into action for the first time this season on Wednesday, hosting an overmatched Rider squad at home. This one had a bit more drama than Indiana’s game, at least early on. However, Rutgers took control by half and never looked back en route to an 81-53 win. Jamichael Davis proved to be the difference, as he had 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists in the win. Tariq Francis also had a nice performance with 20 points and a 178 offensive rating.
The win pushed Rutgers to 1-0 on the season. The Scarlet Knights will now get a few days off before another tune up against Maine at home on Monday. KenPom gives Rutgers a 95 percent chance to win that game.
