Rayadas keeps spiraling down while Club América showed they have a ‘never say die attitude.’ In the midst of a controversy regarding the officiating, the Eagles won on the road.
Somewhere else in Mexico,
Chivas won by a thin margin, while Toluca had a comfortable win.
Club América battles to get three points
Despite Rayadas de Monterrey scoring first through a golazo by Daniela Monroy, coach Ángel Villacampa made some substitutions early in the second half to turn things around – And his plan worked. Scarlett Camberos first and then Irene Guerrero in stoppage time, tallied a goal each to bag three points on the road.
However, the game left a lot to talk about, especially the officiating. In the 50th minute, a penalty was awarded to Rayadas for a foul on Lucía García. At the end of the day, Sandra Paños saved it, but when looking at the replay, the foul was outside the box.
On the other hand, it looks like the ball went out before Guerrero scored the winning goal.
You might argue that with goal-line technology or VAR, Kiana Palacios played it before the entire ball was out but we might never know. This past game between Rayadas and América only highlights what we have known for a long time: Liga MX Femenil desperately needs VAR in league matches.
Understandably, captain Valeria del Campo was furious at the end of the match and she was sent off.
Toluca scores six
Diablas hosted Mazatlán and scored a half dozen on them. It was something expected but it doesn’t mean we’re taking anything from them.
The MVP of the game was Amandine Henry after scoring a hat-trick. Karla Martínez, Abby Erceg and Cinthya Peraza contributed with a goal each in the team’s victory.
After this win, Toluca moved to fifth in the table, seven points shy of the first spot occupied by Tigres.
Chivas bested Pumas
The match was played at Akron Stadium, the home of Chivas. It was perhaps the most enjoyable of the week. The visitors put themselves ahead when Angelina Hix tallied a brace before halftime.
With a half still to play, Daniela Castro put one back for the home team in the 65th minute and then, Viridiana Salazar turned the tables with a brace.
Stephanie Ribeiro found the equalizer but Licha Cervantes had some fuel in the tank and scored the winning goal in stoppage time.
With this result, Chivas reached a five-match winning streak and now they’re fourth in the table.
In other news, goalkeeper Blanca Félix will be out for the following games after having undergone surgery due to a fracture of the fourth metacarpal on her right hand. The club announced that her return to play will depend on her recovery.
