The Seattle Seahawks lost to the Marcus Mariota-led Washington Commanders on Sunday. While it’s one of the biggest upset losses the Seahawks have suffered in years, maybe we should’ve seen it coming.
Mariota didn’t have to do a whole lot, but he made timely, accurate throws (including a couple of passes that were nearly caught or caught but marginally out of bounds), and cemented the game with a read-option keeper on a 3rd and long. Three touchdowns, no turnovers, and only one pass that was ever in serious
jeopardy of being intercepted.
And now, for your double depressing stat of the day, Mariota owns Seattle football teams. He’s had three cracks apiece against the Seahawks and Huskies and come out a winner every single time.

It wasn’t like Mariota was a passenger in any of those games. He had 10 total touchdowns and just one interception against the Huskies, while his three separate starts versus the Seahawks saw him get seven touchdowns (six passing, one rushing) and only two turnovers (both with the Falcons).
This is definitely not like when known Seahawks nemesis, Colt McCoy, had modest stats in two of his three winning starts but the games were low-scoring and McCoy could win a game 6-3 or 17-12. McCoy never even played the Huskies when he was at Texas. Mariota has owned Seattle’s two big football teams for almost 15 years.
You know what? Tip of the cap. Hopefully the Seahawks never have to play him again.
