The Pittsburgh Steelers have fully embraced the Aaron Rodgers experience thus far. While Rodgers did not officially sign with the team until June, he is doing everything he can to ensure they are set up for success this season.
One player who has the opportunity to be an impact player for the Steelers this season is 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson. Wilson had an injury plagued rookie season, but has caught the attention of Rodgers in camp and preseason.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Rodgers opened up about his coaching of Wilson, like he has mentioned several times throughout training camp.
“We’re going to coach him hard,” Rodgers said. “He’s a great talent, but that can make the difference. We’re going to hold him to a standard of excellence. He has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league.”
Rodgers and Wilson have had a solid connection all camp, and Wilson could be in line for a big season with Rodgers under center. This would not be the first time that Rodgers has taken a young receiver under his wing and helped them flourish.
Players like Allen Lazard were in the early stages of their careers and ascended with Rodgers as their quarterback. Lazard and Wilson could have similar roles in a Rodgers-led offense due to their skill sets. Both are quality route runners with deep play ability; those types of players have had lots of success with Rodgers in the past. Now, Rodgers is hopeful that Wilson will be the latest example of pushing a player to make them great.
Rodgers and the rest of the organization have made it clear that the talent is there, and it is up to Wilson to put it all together. If he can, the Steelers could have found themselves a key contributor for the 2025 season and beyond.
