Tennessee basketball stayed hot on the recruiting trail on Wednesday, picking up a commitment from point guard Marquis Clark. The 6-1, 175 pound prospect is out of Chicago, checking in as the second ranked
player in the state of Illinois.
According to 247Sports, Clark is a three-star prospect ranking 252nd overall in the nation. Tennessee assistant coach Amorrow Morgan played a key role in landing Clark, knowing of the point guard back when he was a freshman. Morgan’s days at Loyola-Chicago paid off here as Tennessee came in with a late offer to ultimately land Clark.
Tennessee was Clark’s only major offer, with schools like Southern Illinois, Purdue Fort-Wayne and Western Michigan also in the mix. Clark was on campus last weekend for his official visit, which is where he told the coaching staff he would be a Vol.
Clark was one of the top scorers on this summer’s EYBL circuit, putting up over 15 points per game. He shot nearly 50 percent from the floor across 22 games, playing for the Nike Meanstreets.
Rick Barnes has now gone back to back with under-recruited point guards. Troy Henderson is nearly identical in size and prospect ranking from the class of 2025. Now both Henderson and Clark will try to follow in the footsteps of Zakai Zeigler, who came from a similar background.
Tennessee now holds three commitments in the class of 2026, all coming in the last couple of weeks. Clark joins wings Manny Green and Ralph Scott in the class, which now ranks 8th nationally, per 247Sports.
