In case you missed it, in the fourth quarter of the Tennessee Titans’ 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans, Mason Kinsey was running wide open down the field, and Cam Ward threw the ball wide of him. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the play:
It is quickly becoming one of the most scrutinized plays in Titans’ history. There is a lot of debate on who was at fault. While the only way to actually
know that is for someone in the building to tell us, I’m going to use some common sense to pin the fault on Kinsey.
First off, Kinsey said after the game that he had never run that route before. Ward, who has taken pretty much all of the first-team reps since he was drafted, would certainly have a better understanding of where the route is supposed to go.
Secondly, Ward is rolling to his right, and the sideline is open. In what world would it make sense for him to throw the ball across his body back to the middle of the field? In no world, that’s what world.
Or, maybe in the Titans’ world, that is exactly how the play was designed:
If that was truly designed that way, it really is a terrible play design.
