Things have gotten messy between all the boxing promoters working under Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh’s umbrella, and the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority has suggested a ‘peace summit’ to sort things out. The only problem: all of his friends are having too much fun feuding.
Zuffa Boxing keeps poaching Eddie Hearn’s fighters and Dana White claims he’s going to push the Matchroom Boxing head out of the biggest fights of the year. But Hearn insists he’s having a great time battling
White, with the beef only increasing his fame in the United States.
“I’ve got to be honest: this war that I’m in with Dana White, I find so enjoyable,” Hearn said during a recent media scrum. “You see what’s going on now with me and Dana for six months? I did that for 15 years with Frank Warren, and let me tell you something now, Dana White can’t lace Frank Warren’s boots when it comes to having a war in boxing.
“If you ask me, I don’t really want peace. I want war, but in a good way. I’ve got nothing personal against Dana White. I’m just really enjoying it.”
White was equally uninterested when asked about Turki’s proposed meeting following Sunday’s Zuffa Boxing 08 event at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas.
“I don’t know what our issues would be. I’m good,” White said. “Listen. If Eddie was here, I’d talk to Eddie. I don’t have any problems. I mean, I told you guys a couple times now, when all these [promoters], not just on the boxing side, but on the MMA side, I know it’s fun to ask — we are not the same. We are not the same. Any of these guys. The competitors that I look at as competition right now pare] the NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, and the NHL.”
“None of these other guys matter to me. None of them on either side. On the MMA side or the or the boxing side. I’m not even gonna go into that kind of s—t anymore. We are not the same.”
White agreed with another press member’s suggestion that a meeting would be to iron out details on an upcoming Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight. Hearn has said signed contracts dictate that White not be involved in the bout, and that it must take place in the United Kingdom, not America as has been rumored recently.
“That would make sense,” White said before claiming he already knew exactly what was happening with the fight. “I have all the info. See what Turki says in the peace summit … I know where it is, and never did I say it was in Las Vegas.”
