It has been reported by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg that Max Eberl is looking set to have his Bayern Munich contract extended by at least one year as the club’s board member for sport. After a period of uncertainty in the latter stages of Bayern’s 2025/26 domestic double season, it’s now looking like Eberl has done enough to convince the club’s hierarchy to extend his stay beyond 2027, when his current contract is set to expire.
The supervisory board will officially decide on Eberl’s
extension after their next meeting later this month and it’s understood internally that they’re pleased with the summer transfer business that’s already been completed this summer with bringing in Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt in addition to signing Bara Sapoko Ndiaye on his first professional contract with the club. In addition to incoming signings, Eberl’s task remaining this summer, alongside sporting director Christoph Freund, is to try to offload out-of-favor players to help better balance Bayern’s overall wage bill.
When Eberl was directly asked about his future at the club’s preseason training camp in Tegernsee, the 52-year-old remained rather tight-lipped in his answer and said he’s just focused on doing his job right now.
“That’s not my task. My task is to do my job. I’ve been doing that for over two years now: building a squad that can bring success, with players with whom we can identify, playing football that people enjoy watching. That’s my task. And then a decision will be made about me. But that’s not our topic today,” Eberl replied when he was asked about his future and upcoming expiring contract next year.
Of course, all signs are pointing towards an extension for Eberl, but he might not have known that at the time he was asked the question in Tegernsee. There were certainly doubts before this past season ended that he would be offered an extension, but the supervisory board now seems pleased enough to be able to extend his contract with what they’ve seen so far this summer.
