No. 3 Kentucky Volleyball took on No. 13 Penn State inside Wrigley Field in Chicago on Sunday night. Kentucky dominated the matchup, winning in four sets by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15.
With the victory, Kentucky improves to 5-1 on the season, while Penn State falls to 3-1.
One of Kentucky’s star players, outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye, finished with 21 assists and 22 points. Outside hitter Georgia Watson, who is from Huntley, Illinois, about an hour outside Chicago, recorded a perfect
hitting percentage and helped seal the victory for Kentucky with the match-winning point in the fourth set.
For Watson to end the game in the place where she grew up, just outside the city of Chicago, must have been a surreal moment for her, as well as for her family and friends.
Setter Kassie O’Brien also had an impressive performance, recording 48 assists, while middle blocker Lizzie Carr led the match with six blocks.
Overall, it was a dominant performance from the Wildcats and a memorable night for the program as Kentucky played inside a baseball stadium at the iconic Wrigley Field.
Kentucky will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when the Wildcats face North Carolina inside Memorial Coliseum in Lexington at 6 p.m. ET.
