Magpie striker William Osula has seemingly learned about his short-term future with Newcastle.
According to a new report from the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Osula will remain a Newcastle United player through
the January transfer window.
Hope made it clear in his column that “William Osula will NOT be leaving Newcastle in January, despite lingering interest from home and abroad.” The insider added that all decision-makers at St James’ Park “recognise the striker’s development and believe that, even if a club returned with the £30million fee that was agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day this summer, there is no player on the market better at the same price and profile.”
Osula’s recent form has further solidified his place in Eddie Howe’s plans, with the 22-year-old impressing despite managing an ongoing ankle injury.
Hope revealed before the EFL Cup game against Tottenham that Osula “cannot even practise his finishing in training, such is the pain,” yet the young forward continues to play a vital role in Newcastle’s depleted attack.
The Denmark youth international was close to joining Frankfurt on September 1, but the move collapsed when the Bundesliga side sought to change the structure of the deal from a permanent £30 million transfer to a loan.
Hope reported that Newcastle’s ownership group, PIF, “pulled the plug, believing it was no longer of benefit to Newcastle.”
A separate agreement with Aston Villa also fell through earlier that day due to UEFA spending rules, and Osula ultimately stayed at Newcastle in a decision Hope described as fortunate given Yoane Wissa’s subsequent injury and still-pending debut with the Magpies.
According to Hope, Newcastle want Osula to “see out the season at St James’” while continuing his development and recovery, and will only revisit his situation next summer.
