There was basketball news happening on and off the court Wednesday afternoon. Joe Tipton of On3 reports that the Kentucky Wildcats are now targeting Keegan Brown to join the coaching staff in what is expected to be a front-office role. A deal is expected to happen in the near future.
It’s unclear if this will be related to the player-development job that was recently posted by UK. Mark Pope has previously stated he plans to make several additions to his basketball staff this offseason.
There has been
much discussion recently as to what the best plan of attack should be for Pope and his staff when it comes to constructing a roster. Brown served on Pope’s staff while at BYU and most recently held the role of head video coordinator for the Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.
Tipton noted that Brown specialized in roster construction, scouting, analytics, and NIL strategy while at BYU. All things that Kentucky could no doubt use help with.
The general sentiment around the program is that Pope needs some help, and filling specific roles should relieve some of the pressure, allowing him to coach his team while others handle the rest.
Could Keegan Brown be that guy?
He seems to check all of the right boxes, but time will tell.
For now, the Cats have more postseason games to win!
