Training camp is almost here, but one question continues to linger for the Buffalo Bills: Is the wide receiver room complete?
That discussion picked up steam this week after Mike Florio highlighted comments from veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who made it clear Buffalo is where he’d like to be.
Speaking with Tim Graham of The Athletic, Cooks said, “Obviously, Buffalo is the place I’d love to be.” He added that both sides are still figuring things out and hopes something comes together before training
camp begins.
It’s easy to understand why.
The Bills are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, Josh Allen is still Josh Allen, and Cooks already knows the offense and locker room. Bringing him back wouldn’t require much of an adjustment, and he would provide experienced depth without dramatically changing the makeup of the offense.
But Cooks isn’t the only former Bills receiver whose name continues to find its way back into conversations.
Over the past couple of months, Stefon Diggs has fueled plenty of speculation through social media. Whether intentional or not, there have been enough hints, likes, and posts for Bills fans to wonder if a reunion is something Diggs would welcome. That doesn’t mean the Bills are interested or even whether or not they SHOULD be interested, but it has certainly kept the conversation alive.
So if Brandon Beane decides another veteran receiver would benefit this roster, which reunion makes more sense?
From a football standpoint, Brandin Cooks feels like the easier answer. He already embraced a complementary role last season and understands he isn’t coming in to command double-digit targets every week. He’s a veteran who can stretch the field, mentor younger receivers, and provide valuable insurance if injuries become an issue during the season. At this stage of his career, he appears to understand exactly what his role would be.
The Bills don’t need another player expecting 100-plus targets. They need depth, reliability, and someone who can contribute when his number is called without changing the chemistry of a room that appears to be in a really good place.
Diggs presents a much different conversation. There’s no denying what he accomplished in Buffalo. He helped elevate Allen into one of the league’s elite quarterbacks and became one of the most productive receivers in franchise history. Talent has never been the question.
The question is everything else.
The Bills have spent the past two years building an offense that spreads the football around and doesn’t rely on one receiver carrying the passing game. Joe Brady’s system has emphasized balance, multiple playmakers, and taking what defenses give them. The “everyone eats” mentality. That approach has helped produce one of the NFL’s most efficient offenses.
Would bringing Diggs back enhance that? Or would it change the identity they’ve worked to establish?
Diggs is the bigger name. Cooks may simply be the better fit.
What do you think? If Brandon Beane adds one more veteran receiver before the season begins, are you bringing back Brandin Cooks, rolling the dice on a Stefon Diggs reunion, or standing firm with the current roster?
