The Dallas Cowboys have had some good fortune with Dak Prescott as their quarterback, but it hasn’t been nearly enough during the best seasons of his career. Joey Porter Jr. dove into why he didn’t play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and how much he could play versus the Green Bay Packers.
Team owner Jerry Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer seem to have different ideas about where Christian Parker will call plays from now on, and the Cowboys also released some midweek injury updates.
Are the Cowboys wasting prime years of Dak Prescott’s career? – Jon Machota, The Athletic
The Cowboys
have made five playoff appearances with Dak Prescott as their quarterback. Their lack of building consistently good rosters have resulted in a lack of postseason success.
During Prescott’s first nine NFL seasons, the Cowboys were 76-46 when he started. Average that out over a 17-game season and that’s between 10 and 11 wins every year. It’s a record that basically means a playoff berth any time the franchise quarterback plays a full season.
Under head coach Brian Schottenheimer since the start of last season, the Cowboys have had the 33-year-old Prescott for every start. They are 9-12-1. Certainly not good enough to even make the playoffs.
Joey Porter Jr. explains sudden illness, hints at plan for him vs. Packers – Patrik Walker, DallasCowboys.com
Joey Porter Jr. was abruptly sent home before th Cowboys played the Buccaneers last week. He speaks on what happened and what the outlook is for him in regards to playing time against the Packers.
“I really just couldn’t hold anything down,” he told DallasCowboys.com on Wednesday, after returning to practice. “You know, I just kept throwing up. I try to fight through. I tried to take a nap before the game, just to shake it off, but I just couldn’t hold in deep down.
“So that’s when they made the call to send me home.”
It certainly wasn’t for lack of effort that Porter missed the game. He took a nap to try and feel better after reporting to the team earlier in the day that he felt a little off, apparently then missing the team bus to the stadium and catching a rideshare to try and suit up.
Cowboys haven’t used their best weapons consistently in 2026. That needs to change soon – Joseph Hoyt, Dallas Morning News
Dallas averages a lot of points per possession on offense. However, their struggles on defense have limited their ability to score even more.
“You never want the defense on the field a lot,” Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark said. “Our job is to get off the field.”
Therein lies the root of the Cowboys’ lack of offensive possessions. The Cowboys have been victimized often by long drives. The New York Giants set the tone for the season — and that game, notably — when they allowed a 10-play touchdown drive on their opening possession. That tone was echoed even louder when the Buccaneers, with an undrafted rookie quarterback, went on a 15-play scoring drive in last Thursday’s win over the Cowboys. That drive lasted 10 minutes and 58 seconds.

Brian Schottenheimer directly contradicts Jerry Jones on Dallas Cowboys’ plan with Christian Parker – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZ Sports
Jerry Jones said that defensive coordinator Christian Parker would call plays from the booth earlier this week. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer sung a different tune on Wednesday.
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones broke news earlier this week when he casually said defensive coordinator Christian Parker would move from the sidelines to the coaching booth moving forward.
After mentioning it as an off-the-cuff comment, Jones was asked to confirm if he was saying Parker was moving to the booth. Jones said yes.
Well, head coach Brian Schottenheimer is now publicly contradicting Jones.
“None of those decisions have been finalized,” Schottenheimer told reporters on Wednesday.
