Angel City FC announced two signings out of college with Karsyn Cherry from the University of Louisville and Carina Lageyre from Duke to three-year contracts through the 2028 season.
“I am very excited
and grateful to be able to play for a club like Angel City FC,” said Cherry. “The fans, community, and culture are top tier, and I can’t wait to be part of it. Joining a team with such incredible talent and to build lifelong relationships with everyone there is a special opportunity for me. I can’t wait to see what we do for each other and for the city.”
Cherry is a defender who primarily played at center back during her time at Louisville, and was a key defender in her final season with the team earning 12 shutouts across 19 matches for a career-best 1,558 minutes. She was awarded second team All-American honors from the United Soccer Coaches, and was ranked 67 by Topdrawersoccer.
“Karsyn (Cherry) is an important addition to our backline bringing qualities that we have admired as we followed her collegiate career,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “Karsyn is a ball-playing defender with a great range of passing as well as an ability to dictate play. Defensively, Karsyn is relentless in dominating duels, defending her box and defending 1v1. Player development is a key part of Angel City, and we are excited to bring another exciting young talent to our club.”
Later in the day Angel City announced the signing of Carina Lageyre, a midfielder, from Duke Univesity.
“Since my first meeting with Mark (Parsons) and Alex (Straus,) I was excited about their vision for the future for this organization and I am extremely thankful to be part of it,” said Lageyre. “I chose Angel City because I want to develop in a competitive training environment with a strong fan base. This team provides all the resources for us to be successful and I’m looking forward to making this city proud.”
Lageyre played 3,962 minutes across 65 appearances during her four-year career at Duke that ended with a successful run in the NCAA College Cup that ended with a tough 1-0 loss against the Women’s college soccer powerhouse, Stanford Cardinal.
“Carina (Lageyre) is a fantastic young talent from one of the top college programs in the country, while also having significant US Youth National Team experience,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons. “(Lageyre) is a highly intelligent midfielder who can control games through her positional play and passing game which is rare. We couldn’t be happier that she will bring this style of play to our club.”
With the USYNT Lageyre has appeared at the U-15, U-17 and U-20 levels since 2017 and was a member of the Under-20 team in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the United States. Earlier that year she also played in the 2022 2022 Sud Ladies Cup alongside many current United States stars like Jaedyn Shaw, Michelle Cooper and Olivia Moultrie.
Angel City are expected to announce two more signings this week having teased the announcements on Monday. Tomorrows signing is rumored to be from Florida State University, and Friday’s is expected to be an American player.
