If the Seattle Seahawks want to get their season back on track against the Arizona Cardinals, they’ll be doing so without some of their best trench stars.
That starts with newly acquired offensive lineman Quenton Nelson, who the Seahawks ruled out on Friday. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Nelson will undergo a minor procedure on his knee and won’t go on injured reserve. Second-year Grey Zabel will slide back to the left guard spot while Anthony Bradford returns to the starting lineup at the right
guard spot after one game on the bench, Macdonald said.
The offensive line will be without star left tackle Charles Cross, with Josh Jones filling in for the second week in a row.
Seattle will also face Arizona without two key defensive linemen, including defensive tackle Leonard Williams and edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu. Williams suffered a stinger last week against the Chicago Bears while Nwosu is rehabbing an ankle injury that kept him out of the Bears game. The Seahawks will also be without Brandon Pili, who has a back injury, leaving Seattle with little depth up front.
Stepping in for Sam Darnold, backup quarterback Drew Lock will play despite being limited on Friday with an elbow injury that has left him inactive in the team’s last two games. With Lock at the helm, the Seahawks cruised past the Cardinals in Week 2, an outcome that the much-maligned offense will hope to repeat on Sunday.
Lock will need to do it without wideout Rashid Shaheed, who will miss his second straight game after suffering a knee injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. Shaheed’s backup, Tory Horton, was on the injury report this week with a hand injury, but doesn’t have a designation for this week.
