Nick Woltemade’s role at Newcastle United has shifted in recent weeks, particularly following Bruno Guimaraes’ injury, but a fresh report dropping at the start of the week suggests that most of the speculation about his potential return to Germany is premature, to say the least.
Before Guimaraes was sidelined, Woltemade had fallen out of the starting lineup, prompting claims he was unhappy and considering a move back to the Bundesliga.
According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, that narrative does not
align with the club’s understanding of the situation.
“Daily Mail Sport understands he has not communicated any such feelings to Newcastle and, on the contrary, has shown a willingness to adapt and learn,” Hope wrote. “For now, all sources are aligned on him being a Newcastle player next season.”
Bayern Munich were heavily linked with Woltemade before his move from Stuttgart to Tyneside, with the German behemoths only stopping their pursuit once they learned about the massive price tag NUFC ended up paying.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk, however, Bayern continue to monitor his development.
“Bayern always have an eye on his development,” Christian Falk said, per Hope. “But there is no contact and no idea of bringing him back this summer. This could be a question for the future, but he would be too expensive at the moment.”
Falk added that any potential exit would likely be player-driven.
“I have heard that if Woltemade did not feel comfortable or confident with his situation then he could go to the manager or owners of Newcastle and they would react, if he wanted a transfer,” Falk said. “But this has not happened, and there has been no contact with any of the top clubs in Germany.”
A key quote included in Hope’s report has to do with Bayern’s plans for Woltemade in case they had landed him last summer, which also opens the door for a potential bid during the upcoming transfer window.
“Bayern’s plan was to use him with Harry Kane,” said Raphael Strasser. “It was not to build him as a future No 9 for when Kane leaves. No, they wanted to play him behind Kane.”
No formal offer has been reported, but it looks like whether or not Kane stays in Germany next season, Bayern could still try and snatch Woltemade from Newcastle in order to build around him as soon as possible as his profile grows within the German ranks, amid the middle of the 2026 World Cup buildup.
