Netherlands boss Xavi Hernandez has shared an update on Frenkie de Jong’s fitness and says the Barcelona midfielder is happy with how his recovery is going.
De Jong is out with a knee injury picked up during the World Cup which means he’s been unable to play for Barcelona so far this season.
Xavi has also been unable to call up De Jong to his first Netherlands squad due to the problem but says the midfielder is feeling good.
“I was talking to him, we have a very good relationship. He is happy with how
his recovery is going, he has very good feelings,” he told Catalunya Radio.
“And we will see, we will see. I think the key point will be after this break precisely to see if he joins the group and can have good feelings to play 100% again.”
De Jong has been working with the ball at Barcelona and is clearly making progress, although it’s still not really clear when he be will ready to play again for Hansi Flick’s side.
