Notre Dame is gearing up for its media bitz / media days tour in New York City with head coach Marcus Freeman and his top guys; Adon Shuler, Drayk Bowen, Leonard Moore, and CJ Carr.
It’s a little bit of an oddity that a quarterback who is the Heisman frontrunner would show up to a big media event flanked exclusively by defensive players, but that’s exactly the type of football team Notre Dame has this season (which is a very good thing
and not some dig at the other offensive weapons).
Anyways…
The group will go to a number of interviews and appearances over the next few days, but the first one to pop up on the main stage was CJ Carr.
Carr’s story and his journey to Notre Dame as the son of former Michigan athletes and the grandson of Lloyd Carr, the legendary football head coach for the Michigan Wolverines, is well known among Irish fans. Still, as the starting quarterback and Heisman candidate, his full story is what the media and the rest of the country wants — and it’s good.
Carr sat down with Rich Eisen and talked about his recruitment to Notre Dame. The fact that his father hid Michigan’s offer letter at first, and how Tommy Rees recruited him the hardest and showed him the most love — which along with Marcus Freeman’s help, ultimately led Carr to sign with Notre Dame.
Carr also talked about how Notre Dame is using, and will continue to use, how 2025 ended as fuel for the 2026 season.
Not that I would expect otherwise, but CJ looked extremely comfortable during these segments, and has clearly grown into a major leader for this Fighting Irish football team rather than just the very talented quarterback that he is. It’s all a great sign for Notre Dame and its prospects to bring back a National Championship to South Bend this year.
And then after these segments, Carr closed down the New York Stock Exchange along with his head coach and his fellow teammates.
Much more to come as the Irish paint NYC green over the next few days.
