I hope everyone had a great bye week. May you continue to be undefeated on byes. And hopefully you survived Halloween last night and that this game will be a hangover cure rather than a hangover inducer.
At this point Clemson is what it is. Much like previous years there are well defined weaknesses on this team that teams can exploit. Even though they are “fixable” it is hard to say they are going to be fixed this year when they continue to pop up game after game. It really just becomes a case of trying to mitigate those weaknesses or hope that the opponent can’t attack them.
For Clemson it is really simple, can the Tigers play sound football on defense and can the OL actually block a wet paper bag? Clemson’s success each week has hinged on that. Wins have seen the Tigers set the edge, play sound assignment football, and make tackles on defense. And the OL does enough to establish a run game or give Klubnik a chance to throw the ball.
We’ll see if they can do it against Duke today. It’s seems hyperbole to say it, but losing today could very well kill Clemson’s bowl hope. Let that sink in. A win today and a win against Furman means the Tigers need to beat one of FSU, Louisville, and USC to become bowl eligible.
