Victor Wembanyama is all about basketball…during the season. From the tip off of preseason until the fateful end of the NBA Finals, Wemby is locked in and focused on the Spurs winning as many games as possible. When he is not in the heat of competition, he seeks out ways to better himself. During off seasons, he works out with a variety of NBA legends as he broadens his understanding of the game and adds to already incredible talent.
He also shifts away from basketball in the summer in hopes of bettering
himself as a human being. He has previously traveled, read, visited museums, and spent time learning new skills including a stint with Shaolin monks in China.
This summer, Victor has been working out with the French Rugby Team. He attended a fashion show. He’s hosted another Hoops Gambit, helped unveil an updated basketball court, and spent time in Paris with his fellow Spurs teammates visiting the Louvre. Wemby admits that he seeks out these respite activities as he continues to find balance both on and off the court.
“I tried to disconnect as much as I could this summer. It will help me – just like all my past experiences – learning from various people. Having my Spurs teammates come to Paris was great for long-term team chemistry. I can’t give a specific example, but everything I learn in life serves me well.”
Wembanyama is now poised to play two exhibition matches against Serbia with his French national team. The games are on August 20th and 23rd, before the official 2027 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers begin.
