
Columbus Clippers (55-76) – AAA
IND 6 – COL 5
An early jump on scoring by the Indianapolis Indians proved too much from the Columbus Clippers to overcome. Jake Miller fell to 0-3 on the season with Columbus in his 3.0IP opening. Miller gave up 2R/ER on 4H, 1BB, and struck out 1. Triston McKenzie had a rough outing, only recording one out. McKenzie walked 4, struck out 1, and gave up 2R/ER. Jack Leftwich finished the fourth and pitched the fifth. In his 1.2IP he allowed 2R/ER on 3H, 1BB, and 1K. Carlos Hernández and Franco Aleman both pitched two
scoreless innings. Hernández struck out 3. Aleman, struck out 2 and gave up a hit.
The offense tried their best to keep Columbus in the game. Petey Halpin went 1-for-5 with a run. Travis Bazzana went 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Johnathan Rodríguez went 1-for-4 with a run and 2RBI. Kody Huff went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a walk. Dayan Frias went 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI, and a walk. Yordys Valdes went 1-for-3 with a run.
All of the scoring for Columbus can in the fourth in fifth innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Travic Bazzana hit a 1-out single. Cooper Ingle drew a 2-out walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Another walk from Kody Huff loaded the bases. Dayan Frias drew a walk to bring in the runner and for a pitching change. The bottom of the fifth was the most exciting inning for Columbus. Yordys Valdes singled to lead off the inning. Petey Halpin followed up with his own single. Another wild pitched advanced both Valdes and Halpin 90-feet. Bazzana drew a one-out walk to load them up. Johnathan Rodríguez singled to right to score Valdes and Halpin. Rodríguez was able to stretch it out and claim second. Cooper Ingle grounded out to first, but it was enough to score Bazzana and advance Rodríguez to third. Kody Huff singled to right to score Rodríguez, but that wouldn’t be enough to beat Indianapolis.
Akron RubberDucks (72-57) – AA
BNG 7 – AKR 2
Akron started the game strong, with Trenton Denholm going 5.0 innings before two errors allowed two runs to score. In the top of the sixth a throwing error on the third baseman, Tyresse Turner, accounted for both of Denholm’s unearned runs. Zane Morehouse fell to 0-7 on the season. He allowed 2R/ER on 1H, 1BB, and struck out two in his one inning of work. Zach Jacobs pitched the final two frames of the game, giving up a run in the 8th and two in the 9th. Jacobs allowed 3H, 3BB, and struck out one.
The RubberDucks offense, was a bit listless last night. Ralphy Velazquez went 2-for-4 with 2RBI and a triple. Joe Lampe went 2-for-4 as well, Christian Knapczyk went 1-for-4, Jake Fox went 1-for-2 with 1R and 2BB, and Alex Mooney went 0-for-3 with a run and a walk.
Akron’s first run came in the bottom of the third. Alex Mooney drew a one-out walk. Lane Thomas, who was in a rehab start, was hit by pitch. Ralphy Velazquez singled to score Mooney.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jake Fox drew a lead off walk and stole 2nd base. Ralphy Velazquez’ triple to right score Fox before the side was retired.
Lake County Captains (74-56) – High A
GL 2 – LC 3
The Captains have more than a Friday night victory to celebrate. Caden Favors gained his eighth win of the year with a strong 6.0IP outing. Favors allowed only 1R/ER on 5H and 2BB. He struck out six batters. Izzak Martinez earned his third hold, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing 1R/ER on 1H, 1BB, and 1K. Jay Driver got his third save of the season with the Caps. In his 1.2IP, he did not allow a single base runner and struck out two.
Nick Mitchell went 0-for-3 with a walk, Esteban González went 2-for-4 with a double, Jaison Chourio went 2-for-4 with a RBI, Bennet Thompson went 0-for-3 with a walk, Juan Benjamin went 1-for-3, and Maick Collado went 1-for-3 with a walk.
In the bottom of the third, with two outs, Nick Mitchell drew a walk. Esteban González and Jaison Chourio both laid down singles, leading to Mitchell scoring to put the Caps on the board.
In the bottom of the sixth, Bennett Thompson and Jose Devers drew back-to-back walks. A sac bunt from Juan Benjamin scored both base runners for LC’s final runs of the game.
Nick Mitchell had an amazing outfield assist to prevent the Loons from scoring early.
Juan Benjamin turned a great double play featuring a very impressive stretch from first baseman Maick Collado.
With last night’s victory, the Captains have officially clinched a spot in the playoffs, looking to defend their title.
Lynchburg Hillcats (69-59) – Single A
LYN 0 – DEL 6
The Hillcats could not come up with a run in Friday’s loss to the Shorebirds. Jervis Alfaro falls to 4-5 on the season with the 2.0IP outing. Alfaro allowed 1R/ER on 1H and a walk. He struck out 1 batter before being relieved by Cam Walty. Walty pitched 4.0 innings of work. He allowed 3R/2ER on 4H, 2BB, and 2Ks. A throwing error by shortstop Dauri Fernandez allowed the unearned run to score. Logan McGuire closed out the game pitching two innings. He allowed 2R/ER on 3H, 1BB, and struck out one.
The Hillcats only recorded three hits and four walks of their own. Juneiker Caceres, Nolan Schubart, and Luis Merejo went 0-for-3 with a walk. Luke Hill went 1-for-3 with a walk. Tyler Howard and Anthony Silva went 1-for-4, both hitting singles.
