The Miami Dolphins are churning their roster and continually updating their practice squad as the 2026 NFL regular season approaches. Miami is in the early days of reforming its roster to the vision of head coach Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan, and there likely are a plethora of moves still to come.
One move Miami Dolphins on SI’s Alain Poupart suggests would add another quarterback to the Dolphins’ roster. Poupart suggests Miami should look at former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton, who
was waived by the team on Monday. Milton’s waiver period ended Tuesday afternoon with no claims, making him a free agent who can sign with any team, including a return to the Cowboys or a spot on their practice squad.
Prior to the waiver claim deadline, Poupart explained his suggestion, writing:
And it brings us to quarterback Joe Milton III, who the Dolphins absolutely, positively need to bring into the fold — or at least attempt to.
Milton now is available via waivers after the Dallas Cowboys made the surprising decision Monday to waived him after picking up running back Emari Demercado from the Arizona Cardinals. By all accounts, the Cowboys made this move with the thought of bringing Milton back to the practice squad because they figure other NFL teams settled their quarterback situation over the weekend…
The Dolphins are not in a win-now mode; they’re in a mode of establish a foundation and an identity and, perhaps more importantly, finding talented young players to become major contributors down the road.
