As it has been expected, Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer just signed a contract extension with the Bavarians, continuing their relationship through 2027 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Moreover, veteran backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich also signed a new contract which will keep him at Bayern Munich through next’s season as well.
This contract extensions come after weeks of speculation, where everything pointed to this outcome. Bayern Munich higher-ups had been praising Neuer’s level and legacy lately,
especially after performances like the first leg of the Champions League quarte-final against Real Madrid, where he contributed greatly to Bayern Munich’s win in the Bernabéu.
The extensions are about something more than goalkeeping depth, though. Neuer embodies the club’s leadership on the field, thanks to his huge experience. The captain is expected to guide the future generation of goalkeepers, namely Jonas Urbig, until he can eventually take over. Neuer’s experience will surely help Urbig’s development, in a job position filled with pressure, and where patience is definitely not a virtue.
