Player Ratings: Real Madrid 4–1 Sevilla
Thibaut Courtois: 8. Made four saves, including a crucial intervention just before half-time. Was visibly furious with Kylian Mbappé for the turnover that led to Sevilla’s goal.
Fede Valverde: 7.5. Started at right-back and delivered a strong performance on both sides of the ball. Excellent defensively, while providing purposeful runs down the right flank.
Ibrahima Konaté: 7. His passing was loose at times, but he helped advance possession by carrying the ball
forward and put in some good challenges.
Dean Huijsen: 8. His ability on the ball was vital. Passed with purpose and verticality, helping Madrid progress through Sevilla’s lines. Dealt well with crosses at the other end, too.
Marc Cucurella: 6. Mostly solid, though his defensive assignment became considerably more difficult after Sevilla introduced Ejuke.
Arda Güler: 9. An incredible performance on the ball in his first start in Mourinho’s double pivot. Completed 11 of his 14 long passes, dictated play with sharp distribution, and scored an otherworldly goal. There were defensive moments he could have handled better, but dwelling on those feels overly harsh after a showing of this quality.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7. Played one dangerous pass that could have been costly, then repaired the damage by winning the ball back. Otherwise, his distribution was largely good, and he contributed an assist.
Endrick: 7. Brought excellent defensive energy on the right and complemented it with willing runs down the wing. Nothing spectacular, but a hardworking, proactive shift. Kept trying to make things happen.
Jude Bellingham: 7.5. Looked sluggish at times, but still found ways to influence the game. Played some good through balls, registered an assist, and was important in the build-up to Güler’s goal. Added his customary defensive work.
Yan Diomande: 8.5. The final product wasn’t always there, but the persistence was. Relentlessly attacked Juan Iglesias off the dribble, repeatedly asking questions of Sevilla’s defence. Finished with a wonderful goal and an assist.
Kylian Mbappé: 8. The turnover for Sevilla’s goal was a blemish on an otherwise brilliant performance. His dribbling was explosive, his goal outstanding, and his link-up play sharp. On this evidence, he looks more comfortable combining with Diomande and Endrick than with Vinícius occupying the left.
