From up 12 in the first half to down 21 in the second half. That’s what a 27-3 run to end the first half will do.
That’s how Tuesday night went for the Kentucky Wildcats. They went from nearly being in complete control of the game to getting blown out. It’s inexcusable.
Texas A&M made 13 3-pointers, including seven in the second half, in a 96-85 win.
First Half
Kentucky came out firing from all over the floor, racing out to a 30-18 lead. If only it had been that easy the rest of the first half. Texas A&M answered
with a 13-0 run to take a 31-30 lead.
That wasn’t the worst, though. The Aggies run stretched to 27-3 to lead 45-33 at halftime. 27-3. How?!
Kentucky missed its last six shots and only made one of its last 12. They didn’t make a shot in the final 4:03 of the first half.
Texas A&M made four of its last five shots and ended the half on a 14-1 run over the final 3:49.
It was a helter-skelter first half, with the Aggies frenetic style of play clearly bothering the Wildcats. Kentucky turned the ball over seven times, despite having 10 assists. The Aggies, meanwhile, had just two turnovers to 10 assists. They were also 6-17 from three-point range.
Kentucky went from up 12 to down 12. Like how?! It just cannot happen.
Second Half
Nothing went right in the second half. Every time Kentucky tried to make a comeback, Texas A&M had an answer.
The Cats came back to make it a seven-point game late, but it wasn’t enough.
Box Score

MVP: No one
No one deserves to be the MVP for the Wildcats in this game. Plain and simple. Sure, some players had bright spots throughout the game, but nobody deserves to be the MVP of a game the Wildcats should have taken complete control of early.
This team showed some resilience and heart tonight, but the deficit became too great to overcome in the second half for the Wildcats.
