On the opening day of the 2026 free agency legal negotiation period — legal tampering is NOT a thing — the Chicago Bears made a splash signing at safety with the arrival of Coby Bryant. Today they continue to remodel their depth charts for the back half of their secondary.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN the Bears are signing veteran defensive back Cameron Lewis. It reportedly will be a 2-year deal. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed at the time when this article was published.
Cameron Lewis adds a solid mix of experience and versatility into Dennis Allen’s secondary. Throughout Cam’s career he has registered starts at safety, nickel, and corner. In all, he has 14 starts out of 76 total career appearances. This includes playing in all 17 games during each of his last 3 seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The Bears are adding defensive backs as fast as they are losing them.
Earlier today Pro Bowler Nahshon Wright signed a 1-year deal $5M with the New York Jets. It still remains unknown if the likes of Kevin Byard III, Jaquan Brisker, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, or Jonathan Owens will return to the fold. Clearly a reshaping of the depth chart was made a priority for the Bears’ defensive backs.
