Denmark coach Brian Riemer has explained why he has not called up Andreas Christensen for his team’s upcoming games despite the defender being back in training with Barcelona.
Christensen is closing in on a comeback and there’s optimism he could even be passed fit ahead of Sunday’s La Liga match against Atletico Madrid.
Riemer says he wanted to have Christensen in his squad but ultimately decided it was the best decision not to call him up.
“I have spoken to Hansi Flick regarding Andreas Christensen,
and our medical staff has of course been in contact with Barcelona’s staff,” he told TV 2 Sport.
“We have tried to do everything we could. We have of course also spoken to AC a lot. Even though he is one of our absolutely most important players, it has not been possible to get him ready.”
Christensen hasn’t played since September due to injury. Given his injury record, it may be that Barca leave his comeback until after the international break.
